Police probe death of Mechanic in River View Unity

The Regional Division 4’C’ police received a death report on Saturday, May 11, 2024, regarding the passing of Daneshwar Sawh, also known as Derrick, a 50-year-old East Indian male and mechanic. Sawh’s demise was reported to have occurred between May 9, 2024, and May 11, 2024, at his residence in River View Unity, Mahaica, situated on the East Coast.

According to inquiries conducted by authorities, Sawh, who was described as an alcoholic, resided alone at the aforementioned address and often undertook mechanical work in the surrounding villages.

The last confirmed sighting of Sawh was on May 9, 2024, at approximately 10:00 hrs, by Bharrat Bhinauth, a client for whom Sawh was conducting mechanical tasks. Following completion of the work, Sawh departed for his residence but failed to return to finalise the job.

Concerned by Sawh’s absence, Bhinauth revisited his home on May 10, 2024, around 11:00 hrs, and observed Sawh lying on his bed through a northern window. Despite attempting to rouse him with repeated calls, Bhinauth received no response, leading him to presume Sawh was intoxicated and subsequently departed.

The situation took a grim turn on May 11, 2024, at approximately 09:00hrs, when Bhinauth returned to Sawh’s residence to request completion of a car repair. However, upon finding Sawh in the same position on his bed and appearing motionless, Bhinauth alerted the authorities.

Subsequently, police arrived at the scene, documenting and processing it with the assistance of a Crime Scene examiner. However, due to the advanced state of decomposition of Sawh’s body, determining whether it bore signs of violence proved unfeasible.

Sawh’s remains were subsequently conveyed to the Memorial Gardens mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.

As investigations into the circumstances surrounding Sawh’s death continue, authorities remain committed to uncovering the truth behind this tragic incident.
