Fatal collision on Soesdyke/Linden Highway claims 5 lives

Police are currently conducting an investigation into a tragic incident this morning, around 8:20 AM at Long Creek Public Road, Soesdyke/Linden Highway, that claimed the lives of five persons, leaving another four injured listed as critical in the Hospital .
The incident involved two motor vehicles, specifically a black car bearing registration number PAF 6785, which was owned and operated by 24-year-old Rayhum Leacock from Lot 24 Kwakwani, and a silver car registered as PTT 8159, driven by 42-year-old Dwalon Farell from Herstelling Housing Scheme East Bank Demerara.
Dead are Uranie Hall, Rushell Leacock, Rayhum Leacock, Clinton Patterson, and Dwalon Farell.
Initial inquiries revealed that PTT 8159 was travelling southward along the eastern drive lane while PAF 6785 was heading north along the western drive lane, purportedly at high speeds. As the vehicles approached each other, the driver of PAF 6785 reportedly lost control, leading to a head-on collision with PTT 8159.
The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles, resulting in injuries to all occupants. Despite immediate medical attention at the Linden Hospital Complex, Rayhum Leacock, Clinton Patterson, Uranie Hall, Rushell Leacock, and Dwalon Farell succumbed to their injuries upon arrival. Meanwhile, Asha Granum, Aubery Gandi, Rashana Burberry, and Ashana Rammacingo, the other four occupants, sustained severe injuries and were admitted to the hospital. Their current condition is critical, and they have been transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation GPHC) for further treatment.
Following standard procedure, measurements and statements were recorded, and the vehicles involved were impounded at the station for examination by a licensing and certifying officer.
The bodies of the deceased have been entrusted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, pending post-mortem examinations.
The investigation into the incident remains ongoing as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
