Edghill is sole Guyanese rep at ITTF Americas Olympic Qualification

Chelsea Edghill is set to represent Guyana as the sole participant at the ITTF Americas Olympic Qualification tournament today, in Lima, Peru.

The tournament marks the final opportunity for athletes hailing from the Americas and the Caribbean region to secure direct qualification for the upcoming Olympic Games slated to take place in Paris, France.

Edghill’s participation in the tournament follows her historic achievement as the first Guyanese athlete and the first female from the English-speaking Caribbean to compete at the Olympic Games. She earned this distinction through her qualification for the Tokyo Games.

The sport of table tennis made its Olympic debut back in 1988 during the Games held in Seoul, South Korea.

Regrettably, Shemar Britton will not be able to join Edghill in the tournament due to scheduling conflicts arising from his examinations at the Hugh Wooding Law School.
