Dharamlall accused of rape again

Former Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall

A 28-year-old woman, Sarah Hakh alleged publicly that she had been raped by former Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall. Formerly an employee of the same ministry, Hakh shared disturbing details of her encounter with the former government official and expressed her hopes for justice.
Hakh revealed that she first met Dharamlall in 2020 during a professional interaction over dinner, which she described as “strange.” She recounted a subsequent meeting at State House, Anna Regina, Region Two, where she alleges the assault took place. Recalling the ordeal, she expressed feeling shattered and stripped of her dignity.
During the press conference, Hakh expressed dismay over Dharamlall’s continued prominence within the People’s Progressive Party (PPP).
In response, Dharamlall issued a press statement later in the day, vehemently denying the allegations and accusing Hakh of attempting to tarnish his reputation.
Dharamlall asserted that he had a civil and cordial relationship with Hakh until he rejected her advances. He claimed that Hakh then resorted to creating fake profiles to smear his name. He stated his intention to pursue legal action against her and any others involved in spreading what he termed as falsehoods.
This incident comes after Dharamlall resigned last year amid an investigation into the rape of a minor. Despite the controversy, he was recently re-elected to the PPP’s Central Executive, securing a notable position within the party.
