Boat Captain held with unlicenced armed weapon gets bail

Jermaine Williams, a 31-year-old boat captain hailing from Leonora Village, West Coast Demerara, made an appearance today, Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court to respond to charges of ‘unlawful possession of firearms without license’ and ‘unlawful possession of ammunition without license.’

The charges brought against Williams are in contravention of Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05. Before His Worship, Mr. Tariq Mohamed, Williams entered a plea of ‘not guilty’ to both charges. Following the plea, he was granted bail in the amounts of $200,000.00 for the firearms charge and $100,000.00 for the ammunition charge.

The court has set the case for further proceedings on June 3, 2024, marking an adjournment to allow for legal preparations and proceedings.
