Artistes honoured for excellence @ Mashramani Competitions

Guyana’s vibrant entertainment scene received recognition and accolades as several local artistes were honoured for their outstanding performances in the 2024 annual Mashramani competitions. Hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport, the competitions showcased the talents of Guyanese artists in various categories including Calypso, Soca Monarch, and Chutney.

Among the awardees were Calvin Burnette, who clinched first place in the adult Soca Monarch category with his infectious track ‘Handy Man.’ Burnette expressed his delight at being acknowledged for his contribution to Guyana’s music industry, emphasizing the importance of representing the country on such platforms.

Similarly, Parasram Singh, crowned the 2024 reigning Chutney King for his performance of ‘Gone Away,’ reflected on the privilege and honor of participating in the competition. Singh credited the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport for their support throughout his career, highlighting their role in fostering artistic talent in Guyana.

Osei Clark, triumphant in the Senior Calypso Monarch category with his rendition of ‘Promise Land,’ acknowledged the challenges faced on his journey to success but credited the ministry’s support for his achievements.

Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sports, Charle Ramson Jnr, commended the artists for their dedication and talent, affirming the ministry’s commitment to providing platforms for Guyanese artists to shine and contribute positively to the country’s development. He emphasized the transformative power of the arts and pledged continued government investment in the entertainment industry to nurture and support local talent.
